Keep Christ In Christmas Poster Contest
As the Feast of All Saints ends we are all immediately bombarded by a commercial onslaught of images and advertisements capitalizing on the holy seasons of Advent and Christmas. These secular representations of the meaning of the season are not always in keeping with a true Catholic Christian understanding of the celebration of the birth of Christ, or it's significance in salvation history. To redirect the hearts and minds of the faithful during these holy seasons of preparation and celebration, the Wood River Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a "Keep Christ In Christmas" poster contest. The contest is open to the boys and girls of Holy Angels Parish from the ages of 5 to 14 years. The posters will be judged by Fr. Wolford and a combination of teachers, students, and members of our local Knights of Columbus council. The criteria on which the posters will be judged include 1. Clarity of the statement of the theme. 2. How well are the visuals used to convey the message. 3. Overall impact of the poster and it's ability to capture the topic and promote reflection. There are 3 age groups with the winners from each age group receiving a $25 gift certificate to our parish gift shop, as well as having their posters forwarded to the district competition for the second round of judging. All entries will be displayed in the vestibule of Holy Angels Parish the weekend of December 8th and 9th, prior to the judging. Winners will be moved on to the district competition, while all of the other entries will continue to raise our hearts and minds to the mysteries of the birth of our Lord and Savior through the remainder of Advent and into the Christmas season. Please consider taking part in this opportunity to allow your creativity to be used to draw the attention of our parish community to the beauty and majesty of this most holy time of year.
